June Recap: Van Expos, Oregon Coast, and Navigating an M&A Journey
Mileage and Milestones
June was an unforgettable month, marked by 2,284 miles of driving across five states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, and back to our home base in California. Each mile added new memories, challenges, and experiences that shaped an epic adventure on the road.
Van Expos: Hood River and Boise
The month kicked off with two incredible van expos. The first stop was Hood River, Oregon, where van enthusiasts gathered to showcase their unique builds and share stories. This trip was particularly special because I got to road trip with my very good friend Martin from CamperVanHQ. We took some fun back forest roads, including one that led us deep into the Trinity/Shasta National Forest. Along the way, we captured stunning photos with Mt. Shasta in the background, did some fishing on the Trinity River, and had a fantastic time exploring with another van buddy.
Next, I headed to Boise, Idaho, for the first-ever Boise AVE show. Being part of a brand-new event was exhilarating. The sense of community among van lifers was palpable, with workshops, gear swaps, and plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded travelers. These expos are more than just events; they're a testament to the growing van life movement and the diverse individuals who make it thrive.
Oregon Coast Photo Shoot
A last-minute opportunity took me to the stunning Oregon coast for a photo shoot with our brand partner, EcoFlow. While driving back from Idaho, I got the call and had to make a slight detour, hightailing it to the coast without fully knowing the details but trusting the process. Driving on the beach was a surreal experience, feeling the salty breeze and hearing the waves crash while capturing the essence of outdoor adventure. Camping in new spots along the coast was a dream come true, offering picturesque views and peaceful nights under the stars.
This trip did come with one slight challenge — I had to make the full push home in a single day in order to get back for the 4th of July. Almost 12 hours later — after a 45 minute delay in Red Bluff due to an overturned truck — I pulled in, unloaded the van and went to sleep. The next morning, I washed the van and turned it over so we could trek to Sausalito for the 4th and stay in the van that night.
Professional Life Amidst M&A Chaos
At the time of this writing (mid-July), the deal is completed, but in June, the M&A process at Insightly was still in its final stages. Balancing my professional responsibilities during this period was no easy feat. The rigorous due diligence process required meticulous attention, all while on the road.
Reflecting on my 6.5 years with Insightly, I am incredibly grateful for the experiences and opportunities I had. Working with some of the most amazing people I've ever met, I was able to develop valuable skills in customer success management, support, and professional services. This chapter of my career has been a significant part of my professional journey, and I am excited to start the search for new opportunities. I am eager to bring my experience, dedication, and passion to a new role, contributing to a company's success while continuing to grow personally and professionally.
I have nothing but high-hopes for the all the teams. While it was sad to say goodbye, I know they’ll all continue to do great work and make meaningful impacts on the business.
Van Upgrades
June also saw two significant upgrades to our van. First, we installed a Starlink system, which proved incredibly useful for staying connected, especially during remote travels. Reliable internet on the road is a game-changer, allowing me to manage professional tasks and stay in touch with loved ones.
Second, we installed a new AC unit, the Nomadic X2. With the summer heat hitting hard, especially in the western states, this upgrade was invaluable. It kept the van cool and comfortable, making long drives and overnight stays much more pleasant.
Key Takeaways
Embrace Community: The van expos reminded me of the importance of community. Whether you're a seasoned van lifer or just starting, there's always something to learn and someone to connect with.
Stay Flexible: The last-minute photo shoot was a perfect example of how flexibility can lead to incredible opportunities. Sometimes, the best experiences are unplanned.
Balance is Key: Maintaining a professional work life during a busy travel schedule is challenging but doable. It's all about finding the right balance and being adaptable.
June was a whirlwind of activity, filled with highs and lows, but it reinforced my love for the van life and the endless possibilities it brings. Stay tuned for more adventures and insights as I navigate this exciting journey. I have high expectations for July and beyond!!!
