My Journey from 43 to 44 – A Year in Reflection
As I sit here, reflecting on the year, I’m reminded of just how full and fleeting life can be. This past year has been a whirlwind, and as I celebrated my 44th trip around the sun, I felt the weight of both the challenges and the immense gratitude that shaped my journey from 43 to 44.
Van 2.0: A Dream on Wheels
The year kicked off with a major milestone: completing Van 2.0 on the Sprinter. Building out a home on wheels is no small feat, but every bolt, wire, and cut was a step closer to freedom on the open road. This new build, with all its upgrades and custom touches, carried us through 20,000+ miles of adventures. It’s more than a vehicle—it’s a testament to our love of exploration and a partner in every sunrise, every winding road, and every quiet camp under the stars.
Adventures Across the Map
From the rugged landscapes of the Utah backcountry to the surreal expanses of the Salt Flats, the road took us to places that words can barely describe. Horseshoe Bend left us in awe, and countless epic sunrises and sunsets painted the sky with colors that no camera could truly capture. The journey spanned 7 states, each with its own stories, challenges, and breathtaking views.
We made memories at multiple Adventure Van Expos (AVE), proudly representing SergSupply. Standing alongside our community of van enthusiasts was a reminder of the power of connection—how these gatherings fuel the fire for adventure and innovation.
A Heart Full of Family
This year, our little family grew—and so did our hearts. We adopted Louis, a spirited new puppy who has brought endless joy to our lives. Watching him adapt to van life, sharing in his playful spirit, and seeing the bond he’s formed with us (and his van seat) has been one of the brightest highlights.
And of course, we can’t forget our trusty orange tabby, Napoleon, whose calm and loving presence has been a constant source of comfort and laughter. Together, Louis and Napoleon make every mile traveled even more meaningful.
This month, Crystal and I celebrate 3 years of marriage. Through every twist in the road — both literal and metaphorical — her unwavering love and support remain the cornerstone of my happiness. There’s no one else I’d rather share this adventure with.
Loss and Lessons
But this year has also carried its share of heartache. We’ve faced the loss of friends and loved ones—a poignant reminder of life’s fragility. While we won’t delve into the specifics here, these losses have made it clear how short life truly is. Every moment is a gift, and any moment could be our last.
That reality has inspired us to live more fully, love more deeply, and hold onto the people and places that matter most.
Change and Growth
Professionally, this year marked a significant chapter: leaving Insightly after 7 incredible years. It was a tough decision, and there were moments of questioning—wondering if I was on the right path. But with change comes opportunity, and those moments of doubt led to moments of clarity.
The road ahead is open and full of possibilities. While the journey is uncertain, I’ve learned to embrace that uncertainty as part of growth.
Looking Ahead
As I look forward to this next year, I carry with me the lessons learned and the memories made. Van 2.0 is ready for more miles. Crystal, Napoleon, Louis, and I are ready for new adventures. And with a heart full of gratitude for the people and moments that have shaped this year, I’m ready for whatever comes next.
Gratitude for the Journey
To those who have been part of this journey, thank you. To the breathtaking landscapes, the quiet moments of reflection, and even the trials—thank you for shaping me. Here’s to 44 and all the adventures it will bring.
